About the Blue Charley Chronicles

Welcome to the Blue Charley Chronicles, a travel blog focusing on roadside attractions, small towns, and more. This site debuted August 2021 but will include travels from throughout my life. I hope to add more experiences than the ones currently available, so stay tuned.

I reside in California and have been fortunate to gone on many trips. Currently, I try to go every year to the annual convention of the Automobile License Plate Collectors Association (ALPCA), which is hosted at various sites. In 2017, I went on a 12,000 cross-country trip from California to South Carolina and back. These experiences form the backbone of this blog, but it is by no means the limit of my travels.

My blog focuses on travel within the United States. I like state highways versus interstates and enjoy quirky sights, beautiful scenery, little museums, animals, and abandoned buildings, to name a few. This site does not focus on popular destinations like Disneyland, fancy hotels, fine dining, and the like.

My hope is to help travelers discover wonderful and unusual places, even if they’ve been profiled extensively by other media.

My inspirations include roadsideamerica.com and the two novels which give my blog its name: Blue Highways by William Least-Heat Moon and Travels With Charley by John Steinbeck.

Thanks for reading and happy traveling!
